Childhood Behaviours

Many childhood behaviours and habits such as nail biting, hair pulling,  sleep walking, insomnia and stuttering have all been successfully treated with hypnotherapy. Bedwetting (Enuresis) is a common pediatric problem which can be successfully overcome with Hypnotherapy once a medical evaluation ensures there are no physical factors involved. Children have wonderful imaginations, and through the use of stories and metaphor, they easily learn to re-instate their control.

I has worked at the Princess Anne Hospital in Southampton, conducting a pilot study on the use of hypnosis for female incontinence (unstable bladder). I  treat children for bedwetting and night terrors, and all ages for sleeping disorders and inhibiting, repetitive behaviours.

Eating Disorders/ Misophonia

Mealtimes are opportunities for families to gather, converse and exchange news and views on daily activities. But they can cause immense anxiety and tension for family members when they become a battleground. Feeding disturbances such as selective eating, anorexia, and bulimia can affect the health and well-being of not only the sufferer, but others as well. Misophonia and its reactive anger to “mouth sounds” can drive members of the family out of the room, and even stop students from attending school.  Hypnotic strategies reduce tension, enhance self-control, support increased and realistic body awareness, alter distorted body image and foster autonomy and self-development.

Fears

Night terrors are a disorder of arousal and affect 25% of children, usually between the ages of 3-5 years. The event is like a storm of neural emissions in which the child experiences intense flight or fight sensations. It can be extremely disturbing, but is not dangerous. Like sleepwalking and bedwetting, night terrors are experienced in stage 4 of deep sleep, and often run in families. Fatigue and psychological stress may also play a role in their occurrence. Hypnotic suggestions for lighter calm and comfortable sleep can improve this condition.
